BRIGHTSPOT’S PROCESS OF DESIGNING INFORMATION
Note to Readers: Many of you are thinking to yourself, “Why didn’t she put this content in visual form?” Well, excellent question. And here’s the answer: because visuals take time and I’m living in an agile world. On my blog, I put something out there and modify it when I can. Transparency and imperfection is a part of my process, and I’m comfortable with that.
- Client Survey of Needs, Expectations and Experience with Design: This is the part where I assess your needs and interests and determine what, if anything, I can help you with.
- Graphically-Facilitated Exploration Meeting: This is the search for message and meaning behind the design. The deliverables are large-scale murals created in real-time with all or most of the relevant knowledge behind a product/service and the reason for visualizing it.
- Concept Design and Delivery of Thumbnails: This is when I release my information-design mojo. I evaluate all of the exploration we’ve done together and all of the research I’ve done alone and determine what visual architectures best map to your content.
- Beta Infographic: You have to take baby steps before you commit to an adult design.
- Review and Refinement: It would be something to behold if both you and I got every minute detail perfect in the beta version. Hence this stage.
- Final Infographic Coupled with Complete Joy: When we visualize something together, and that something illuminates and clarifies a complex subject for you, your customers, your prospective customers, your employees, venture capitalists, and your dear, sweet mother, I guarantee you, there will be joy.
- Reflection and Follow-up: We learn by moving forward and reflecting backward. Most clients don’t have time for this stage.
